Raffle tickets for Mariana and the Carter’s ‘Celtic Angel’ necklace

Here you can purchase tickets to our raffle if you are unable to visit our shop. Tickets are £2.50 each. Closing date to be confirmed. Please note that nothing will be sent to you when you purchase raffle tickets (we will ensure that your name is included before we close entry). Local lady Mariana told us that one of our Gaol designs reminds her of an angel. This lead us to design this piece, based on the ‘angel’ she saw. We will make 4 individual versions of this design – one to gift to Mariana’s family set with her birthstone, one for he Carters with their daughter’s birthstone and two for the winners of our raffle. With our guidance, our winners can select a stone of their choice for their necklaces. It may be their favourite stone or a stone to represent someone special to them.

Last month, Mariana received the news that she has inoperable cancer. Mariana is a mum of 3 children – a ten year old daughter and seven year old twin boys. We have known Mariana for a very long time. We both worked with her in the jewellers which stood here before Love from Skye. Skye Jewellery had a large staff, including a team of youngsters. About ten years older than us teenagers with our first ever jobs, Mariana took us all under her wing. She always looked after us and gave us lessons for the workplace as well as life lessons and we all had great fun with her too. These are experiences you never forget. Mariana and her husband would be the very first people to help another family.
Later the same month, Mark and Alison Carter of Carter’s Cabin takeaway in the village’s Market Square received the news that their daughter Amy, only in her early 20s, had passed away suddenly. Being self employed, there is no such thing as ‘compassionate leave’. As soon as a small business, with no staff to hold the fort, has to close their doors and stop trading, there is suddenly no income. I don’t know many small businesses or self employed people who could be in a position to be prepared for this happening, however hard we work. We can’t imagine when Mark and Alison will feel able to re-open their business. The Carter’s business is in the heart of the village and they have done a huge amount of fundraising over the few years they have been running Carter’s Cabin.
Aside from a very small amount of financial help, we hope that this will be something special and symbolic for both families. What we raise will go towards the coming months for Mariana’s family and will go towards the Carter’s recovering from an unplanned period of no income and unexpected expenses.
Thank you for your support and for taking the time to read about these 2 local families.
